Our Story

It all started when…

…my wife, Laura, took a class at the Colorado School of Mines in order to fulfill the requirements of her bachelors degree program at MSU Denver. We both grew up in the Denver area but had never spent much time in Golden, but thanks to that class, we decided we should spend a weekend there to experience the history of that little town nestled between the table mountains and the foothills, so we did. I planned a weekend for us around her birthday in the spring, but aside from the Coors brewery tour I could not find any sort of guided tour to learn about Golden’s history. Instead, I improvised and created a scavenger hunt and we spent an entire Sunday wandering the town, sampling beers at the local breweries, peering in the windows at the Golden Historic Park, feeding chickens, and learning all about the town.

When we travel to new places, we often look for guided tours. To me, there’s no better way to get to know a city than having a local teach you about it through stories. You can also get great recommendations for things to do, when to do them, and the places to avoid. It’s become a staple of our travel plans.

Not long after that birthday we moved to Golden for Laura to start her Ph.D. program. There was still no tour aside from some occasional haunted history and ghost tours, but they have their niche in the darker side of Golden and generally occur at night. After about a year of living in town and learning about the history, I decided it was time to flip the script and become a tour guide myself. I decided to offer guided tours that were family friendly, in the daytime, and told the story of the founding and growth of Golden, from a small camp of miners looking to strike it rich along Clear Creek all the way up through the industrial boom and into its age as a destination for people to escape the bustle of the nearby cities.

I’ve always loved a good story, so I try to bring that into every tour, and Golden has no shortage of stories to tell, from brothels to bathtubs, and railroads to Ranchers. My goal is to bring people into the history and make them part of the story.

I hope you’ll join me for a tour soon!
