Golden, Colorado - More Than Just Coors

You can’t mention Golden, Colorado without bringing to mind that glistening silver can with the blue mountains. The Coors Light Silver Bullet has become synonymous with Golden, but long before it arrived the Coors Brewery was positioning itself to be an integral part of Golden since Adolph Coors and Jacob Scheuler opened the Scheuler and Coors Golden Brewery in 1873. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Coors, and over that time they established themselves as a vital part of Golden’s infrastructure and a pivotal player in the community. There were times when the brewery was what held the town together, and times when it nearly brought the town to its knees. Today, it is the single largest brewing installation on the planet and tours of the facility draw hundreds of thousands of people to our historic psuedo-mountain town. (We’re only 15 minutes from Denver and nestled at the base of the foothills.)

Coors Brewery Tours

The last few years have proven difficult to organize large gatherings, so in March of 2020 Coors ceased their tours. It took some careful planning, but after about two years the Coors Brewery Tours are finally back up and running! They are a little different than what they used to be, though, so if you’re expecting to stroll into town and jump on a Coors Tour bus, think again. They’ve added live tour guides, reduced the tour times to 90 minutes at $20 for adults for the brewery tour and 60 minutes at $10 for adults for the sampling lounge, and most importantly, they now require reservations. At the time of this writing, tours are booked out for the next 15 days! So, if you’re planning a trip to Golden or the Denver area in the next two weeks, the Coors Brewery Tour may not make it on your itinerary. But don’t let that stop you from coming out to Golden! We have so much more than just the Coors Brewery! Besides, how much cooler would it be to enjoy a cold Coors Light from the rooftop of The Golden Mill across the street from the world’s largest brewery as the sun sets over the Rocky Mountains? And you never know when a couple of seats on the tour just might open up.

Enjoy a cold beer from the roof of the Golden Mill. The Coors doesn’t get much fresher than this!

More than a Brewery

While the Coors Brewery certainly dominates the landscape, and you can even find a statue of old Adolph himself on the corner of 12th and Washington admiring his life’s work from the center of Downtown, Golden boasts 9 different microbreweries! Three of them downtown and a convenient walk to one another. Beyond beer, Golden is steeped in local shops and restaurants and has a rich history that goes far beyond beer. You could take a walk down Triceratops Trail and see some actual dinosaur footprints, or even visit Dinosaur Ridge for a guided tour! The School of Mines has a top-notch geology museum. Buffalo Bill himself stands guard over Golden from his burial site on top of Lookout Mountain. But really, you came here for the beer and for Coors, didn’t you? Well, maybe we can help.

Take a Wild West Pub Crawl

Whether you made it for the Coors Tour or not, allow us to introduce you to some of Golden’s best microbrews while your charismatic cowboy tour guide regales you with outrageous stories from the Wild West. And yes, stories about Coors and his brewery as well (including some they don’t tell you on the Coors Tour! Shhhh!).

The Wild West Pub Crawls run three hours and we buy you a beverage at all three stops. We think it’s a really fun way to hear some amazing stories, learn a little history, and of course, enjoy some delicious beers and camaraderie. Now, if that all sounds like too much, we do have 1- and 2-hour Wild West Walking Tours as well, both including some Coors stories.

Don’t stop with a cold Coors Light! Try out Golden’s top-notch microbreweries with us on a Wild West Pub Crawl!

So, hopefully you planned ahead and get to experience the Coors Brewery from the inside, but if not (or even if you did!), come be Coors-adjacent with us and experience the rich history and community of Golden, Colorado with some fun storytelling!
